Thanks to their gentle nature and intuitive insights, horses have become valuable allies in supporting individuals with mental health struggles as well as those recovering from trauma.
Horses also have a unique way of teaching us valuable life lessons, such as communication (verbal and nonverbal), being in the present moment, how to trust ourselves and others, how to self-regulate, how to empathize with others, and build meaningful relationships.
Working with horses in a healing capacity is an incredible journey. The bond formed with horses is like no other. They become our partners, mirrors, and teachers, offering us lessons, comfort, companionship, and unconditional love. Together we embark on a journey of support, recovery, healing, learning, unlearning, growth, resilience, and transformation.
Our equine assisted trauma recovery programs have been a game changer for many individuals struggling with mental health issues, as well as the lasting effects of trauma. Our programs help to promote emotional healing, reduces anxiety, depression, dissociation, encourages being in the moment, working through thoughts/feelings/emotions as they arise in a safe, non-judgmental space.
Through various activities, such as, grooming, leading, breathwork, and groundwork, horses teach us to regulate our emotions, manage our energy, and find balance in our interactions (internal interactions and external interactions). They help us to become more aware of our body language and the signals we send out into the world, as well as the signals we are perceiving from the world.
As we learn to self-regulate with horses, we gain valuable skills that extend beyond the barn. We become more attuned to our own emotions, the emotions of others, learn how to manage stress, and develop healthy coping mechanisms.
Horses have an amazing ability to help us find solace and resilience amidst the pain that mental health struggles and rauma can leave behind.
We can never undo the trauma we have experienced and the effects it has had on us. We can, however, recover, heal, and reconnect with ourselves. Horses help us do this in a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental way.
Sessions with horses involve working with them in a "non-traditional horse way", meaning we work on connecting with the horses, not only riding them. Sessions can include sound therapy, mindfulness through groundwork (not riding, working with the horse on the ground) and grooming, breathwork, self-regulation, feeling at peace and at ease, and some basic/beginner riding, when appropriate to do so and if the participant would like to.
*Riding is not the focus of these programs. The main focuses are holistic horse connections and healing with horses through various equine assisted healing and development activities (which are done through groundwork - your feet and the horses hooves stay on the ground, no riding). Riding can be added into session, but only if it is appropriate to do so and only if the horse and participant are ready to do so.
Sessions are 45 min or 60 min
*Sessions take place at our farm (address below). There will be no one else at the farm during your sessions to ensure privacy and safety.
